● From Ryotsu Port Pier, take the bus bound for Aikawa/Sado Gold Mine and get off at Sawane Elementary School (approx. 40 minutes). It's a 5-minute walk after getting off the bus.

SIGHTSEEING
Sado Gold Mine
Sado Island has a history of gold and mineral mining that is recorded in historical documents, such as its appearance in the Konjaku Monogatari (Tales of Times Now Past) and the production of small gold coins during the Tokugawa Shogunate. Experience the history of gold mining on Sado Island by taking a stroll around the town, where you can still see historical sites, or visiting the mine tunnels.

Kitazawa Flotation Plant Ruins
There is a cluster of facilities in the Kitazawa area of Aikawa that were built as a processing plant for ore from the Sado Mine. They were built during the war to increase production, and were known as the “Greatest in the East” because they could process over 50,000 tons of ore in a month.

Toki Forest Park
In Toki Forest Park, located on the grounds of the Toki Breeding Facility, you can visit the Toki Exchange Plaza, where you can interact with the toki (crested ibis), an endangered species in a way that is close to nature. You can also visit the Toki Materials Exhibition Hall, where you can learn about the history, ecology, and breeding of the toki.

Shukunegi
This village developed as a port of call for the kitamaebune trading ships during the prosperous 17th century brought about by the Sado Gold Mine. Facing a small inlet, Shukunegi is characterized by the crowded rows of over 100 houses built with plate walls made from ship planks, and it has been designated as a National Important Preservation Area for Traditional Buildings and Architecture.

Onogame
Onogame is a scenic spot on the northern tip of Sado Island that is always lively with visitors. The sight of the 167-meter-high monolith jutting out into the Sea of Japan is truly stunning. From late May to early June, you can enjoy the sight of large patches of Tobishima kanzo (amur daylily).

Senkakuwan Ageshima Yuen
At Senkakuwan Ageshima Yuen, which looks over Ageshima Kyowan (narrow bay), the fifth most scenic spot of Senkakuwan Bay, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the dynamic scenery from the observation deck. You can also enjoy a cruise around the bay, and the underwater world, aboard a glass-bottom boat (for a fee).

Meotoiwa Rocks
These two gigantic rocks are said to be the origin of the creation myth in the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters). The rock on the right is the husband rock, which is 22.6 meters high, and the rock on the left is the wife rock, which is 23.1 meters high. They stand nestled up together, lapped by waves of Nanaura Coast, and are said to bring luck in finding a partner.

Chojaga Bridge, Ogi
You can experience the taraibune (tub-boat), which was used for fishing things such as seaweed, abalone, and turban shells, and was essential to the lives of the people of the Ogi Peninsula. The boat, skillfully maneuvered by a lady skipper, will make you feel like you're on a journey. *Tour reservations and applications are required.

Iwakubi Shoryu Terraced Rice Fields
The terraced rice fields in the Iwakubi area, which extend out across the mountains at an altitude of over 350 meters, have been passed down since the Edo period. There are currently around 460 rice fields remaining. The large and small irregularly shaped rice fields, which make the most of the steep terrain, are connected together like a dragon ascending to the heavens.
